The adult stage is what most people think of when they think of butterflies. They look very different from the larva. For me this final stage has been reached after hours of reading, writing and learning as a doctoral student. The coursework afforded me not only the extensive knowledge and wisdom of my professors, but the various collection of websites, books and framework templates to be used for my research that they have collected and/or designed for the final stage of my metamorphosis. Finally, after comprehensive studies, I emerge as the butterfly as metamorphosis is complete as a doctoral student, yet only to begin a new cycle ~ that of a doctoral candidate.

The components necessary to complete the cycle.
During the past several decades, population shifts have occurred across the United States as reported by the U. S. Census Bureau. Of particular interest are changes that have taken place in the Northeast region of the U.S. My dissertation will not only look at the population shifts in the Northeast region, but will look at demographic shifts that have occurred within dioceses in the Northeast region, as reported in the Catholic Almanac. As a tertiary examination, I will look at changes that have occurred in religious beliefs and practices as reported in the Pew Report on Religion & Public Life. By examining these reports a story can be told that will be used by educational leaders as we continue to witness these shifts across the United States, and more specific, the Northeast region of the United States.
